Mahankali secondary school in Nagarkot is the most central of the Government schools in the area. Since 2009, Nagarhope has supported children here; in 2012 we sponsored about 30 children here from class Nursery up to grade 10 – the equivalent of Leaving Cert in Ireland. The social studies teacher – Bharat Bastakoti is also a member of our Nagarhope Nepal committee, as is Bhadri Shah, a former school management committee member. In 2010, Nagarhope assisted Mahankali School by building 3 large classrooms on the second floor of the school. Before these classrooms were built, Mahankali School was operating without enough classrooms. Now they can accommodate classes up to Class 10. One of the classrooms was constructed as a computer room / library. Nagarhope was very involved in the planning and construction of the library facilities. The school has not started running computer classes, as they lack a full time computer teacher, but we are trying to raise money to make this so. Many of the children we sponsor from various schools in the Nagarkot area will do their SLC (School Leaving Certificate) in Mahankali School.
