Nagarkot Sunrise Boarding School is situated close to the bus stop in Nagarkot village, 22km north east of Kathmandu. Founded by the Suwal brothers – Rabi and Rabindra in the late nineties, Sunrise now caters to over 200 children from Nursery Class up to Class 7. Nagarhope contributed to building four classrooms in Sunrise School in 2008 and has sponsored boys and girls from the surrounding villages since April 2008. Sunrise school hopes to upgrade to Secondary Level (Class 10) over the coming years, enabling children studying there to stay close to home to finish school. At present, students must travel an hour on a bus to reach Bhaktapur, the closest city, in order to complete their School Leaving Certificate (SLC). Three members of staff in Sunrise School are members of the Nagarhope Nepal Committee – Neeru Talchabadel, Rabindra Suwal and Mangali Tamang. Sunrise have been kind enough to accept volunteers over the years, some of them foreigners teaching English, but also Nepali students awaiting the beginning of College.
It costs €10 per month to sponsor a child in Sunrise School.
