On Saturday April 25th 2015 (Baisakh 12th 2072) at 11.56am, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck with the centre in Barpak of Gorkha district, north-west of Kathmandu. The next day, at a similar time, another huge quake struck the nation. 17 days after the first quake on May 12th, another 7.8 quake struck in Sunkhani of Dolakha district, north-east of Kathmandu. Aftershocks have subsided now, but 10-20 per day persisted in the first couple of months.
